Talbot travels to other planets and dimensions, all the while trying to avoid traps laid by a cunning, ruthless enemy.Along the way, Talbot is helped by Caroline Casey, a young woman with extraordinary supernatural abilities.

In addition to his battles against the forces of evil, Talbot fights an inner war. He is often helped by the wise counsel of Sagehorn, the elven prince.Excerpt:“Talbot, I’d like to speak with you for a few minutes,” Sagehorn said to me.“Yes, sir.”Sagehorn and I walked over toward the treehouses and sat down on a picnic bench next to a wide oak tree.“In the days that I traveled with you after you rescued me, you taught me to build an interior castle,” I said. “I tried and had some success, but then the feelings of anger return and the castle collapses.”“It takes much time and much patience to build a castle that stands through all the storms of life,” Sagehorn said.

“The anger only hurts you. Release it like a balloon and allow it to drift away.”“I’ll try, but it’s difficult.”“Don’t get bogged down in your own emotions, Talbot. We should be useful and help other persons. A wise Spaniard once wrote that we should ‘shine forth with the torch of your faith and your love.’ ”“I behaved foolishly earlier,” I said. “I don’t want to behave that way again.”Sagehorn nodded. “There is no point in losing your serenity. You will just have to find it again.

If you maintain a peaceful state of mind, your outward conduct will reflect the peace and order of your soul. That wise Spaniard also wrote, ‘Don’t flutter about like a hen when you can soar to the heights of an eagle.’ ”“I know that I need to stop wallowing in self-pity.”“You have suffered terrible losses. Your feelings are valid and justified. However, at some point, I’d like to see you transcend those tragedies. You can rise from the ashes like a Phoenix.”“I don’t know how.” I looked at the ground.“Instead of becoming wrapped up in yourself, give of yourself and spread goodness.

A great philosopher once wrote, ‘The good is diffusive of itself.’ ”“What does that mean?” I asked.“It means that it’s the nature of what is good to expand, to spread, to communicate itself. You want to share your good experiences with others.”“I understand. When I hear a good song or read a good book, I want to tell other persons about that song or book.”“That’s right,” Sagehorn said.

“And then those persons will tell others, who will in turn tell more persons, and so on. Truth, beauty, and goodness can be spread far and wide as a result of one small thing that you do.”I nodded. “Like when a rock is tossed into a pond, the waves spread outward in ever-expanding concentric circles.”When Sagehorn and I finished our conversation, I walked through the woods toward the clearing where the waterfall was located.

I was hoping that Caroline would be there. She and I both enjoyed watching the waterfall and looking at the colorful fish swimming in the pool beneath it.
